Bradley S. Giles “Brad” has become the leader of organized electrical contractors in Flagler, Volusia and Brevard counties through tenacious hard work and a common sense approach to business and the community. Born in 1966 and raised in Daytona Beach, Brad has found that working closely with community leaders and giving back to his trade provides the most satisfaction in his day to day work. Brad graduated Spruce Creek High School in 1984 and studied both at Daytona State College as well as Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. He enrolled in the Don Morgan Electrical Academy in 1987, obtaining his Florida Electrical Journeyman’s license in 1989. Soon after, he left the field and went to work for his entrepreneurial Father Art Giles, in their electrical contracting firm (G.E.C.I.) which was est. in 1970. Utilizing a self directed curriculum provided by the National Electrical Contractors Assoc., he completed numerous courses in Estimating, Project Management, Finance and Business Administration. In 1994 Brad obtained his State of Florida Unlimited Electrical Contractors License (EC#1538) and was soon made the V.P. of Giles Electric. After proving his abilities time and time again working with his Father, they arranged a Buy-out agreement in 2000, which signaled the beginning of great things to come. Since that time, Brad has held numerous positions in the industry as well as spear heading countless innovative new approaches to improving the industry overall. All the while he has simultaneously grown Giles customer base and expanded the company's position as a leader in the Central Florida area, which continues through today.
Although too many to list here, the highlights of positions he has held include: President of the Electrical Council of FL '93-'95, where he developed an “Unlicensed Contractor Hotline” empowering all trades to watchdog their community 24/7/365 for unlicensed construction activity. He also was a member of the construction task force which organized an “Inter-local Agreement” of 21 municipalities within Volusia and Flagler Counties, enabling building officials to create a “Unified Code Committee” and meet regularly to unify coding and other issues across city and county jurisdictions. In 2005 he was elected Chairman of the Daytona Beach Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (a.k.a. Don Morgan Electrical Academy) and in 2006 was given the “Outstanding Service Award” by same. He is the (Past) Chairman of the Volusia/Flagler WFDB “CBE”, (Past) Chairman of Volusia County School board FUTURES Foundation Board of Directors; (Past) Chairman of the VCSB Career Connection Cadre Board [Member since 1990]; Civic League of the Halifax Area; (Board of Directors) Team Volusia Economic Development Committee; Checkered Flag Committee for Daytona Int'l Speedway and in 2013 Governor Scott Appointed Brad to the Board of Trustees at Daytona State College. As a 2nd generation NECA contractor Brad has honorably served in various capacities including: Recently completing his 3nd term as President of the No. Florida Chapter (Chapter of the year out of 8 states under two terms). He served for 5 years on the Government Affairs Committee for District 3. He is thrilled to become the first “Young Contractor” member on The Electrical International Foundation (a research and development arm of NECA) and has completed his 4th term as a member of the Program Selection Committee. In 2010 NECA warded Brad the “Leadership” Award for District 3 which represents the South Eastern United States. Governor Charlie Crist tapped Brad to serve on the State of Florida’s DBPR Electrical Contractors Licensing Board in 2010. Most recently Brad has been elected into “The Fellows of Electrical Academy” which makes him only the 2nd Electrical Contractor from Volusia County in its history to be honored as such.
Brad is blessed with a fantastic family to keep him grounded during those busy days. His wife Leigh Anne left a career as a VCSB kindergarten teacher to focus on the Giles family, and is actively involved as a volunteer for her children's schools and several local non-profit organizations. They have two wonderful children, daughter Laken Barbara (Actress/Dancer) and son Harper (Football/Weightlifting/Track). “Love of God, Life, Family and Trade” is a passion that he pursues with vigor daily.
